WHAT’S YOUR SOUNDTRACK?
I just can’t remember the first time I listened to my favourite band “Queen”. I think it was when I watched their funny video clip of the song “I want to break free” on TV. Freddy Mercury was dressed as a housewife with a big moustache, singing while “she” was hoovering the living room. Then I began to listen to everything from them and I was drawn towards their songs and lyrics, little by little. I even bougth a book about their lives the first time I was in England.
Nowadays I got every album they released. Maybe, the attraction to them is due to Freddy’s personality. It’s said that he left music lessons to become a rock star. But I don’t think so. He wanted to be more than this. He said “I won’t be famous, I’ll be a legend”. And he is.
If you listen to this prodigious voice you’ll understand these words. He proved his different musical registers along his life, just remember the Olympic anthem of Barcelona’s Games together with Montserrat Caballé, the most famous Spanish soprano.
When Freddy died, I think Queen died with him too.
Anyway, it’s only a band. When you became an adult you realize how important music is for the rest of your life. There are many moments, many people, and many songs close to them. In my case, Queen has more songs than no one in my life’s soundtrack. (Emilio González, I2)
